30 hours of progress gone :(

Hi,

I have a problem with a corrupt save/career slot. The game crashed and when I restarted, my career slot was at 0% progress.

I tried the fix where you delete the most recent career files and rename the 2nd one to the first one, but that didn’t solve the problem. Still 0% progress. I also noticed that all my career files have the same timestamp. The timestamp is a minute after the crash.

Is there anyway to recover my career? I already spent like 30 hours in the game and I really don’t want to start all over.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yep, I just got hit with this one as well. Crashed on the space museum out of nowhere. And what had been a three star museum had completely reset to the blank map of the beginning when I loaded the game back up.

I managed to salvage this one, but it was a very narrow thing. If you go into the game save folder, you'll find there's a bunch of files labelled "career", but these are small, and I think these only store the star progress and unlocks, not the actual museum data. Also in this folder though you'll find some files that are just four digit numbers (in mine, they're just 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005, 1006). These appear to store the actual museum data, and the game keeps five back ups of each one (appending .1.bak, .2.bak etc to the file name).

Check the file sizes on these. I was easily able to identify which file matched to the space museum which had lost all the progress, because it was only a few kB instead of 1000+ kB. The oldest two back ups (.5.bak and.6.bak) were much larger files, and by deleting the main file (1006 in my case) and removing the .5.bak extension from the back up, I was able to recover my progress.

@Joever I'm not certain if you've lost your whole career, or just one of the five museums like I did. If it's the latter, it might be salvageable this way, if any of the backups are still good. Unfortunately though, it appears to overwrite a backup every time you go in and out of the file going, "hey, where'd my museum go?" so it's really easy to overwrite all the backups before you realise how badly the game messed up - I'd lost 4 out of 6 backups in only a couple of minutes after the crash. And as far as I can tell though, all the career.csav.bak files always get overwritten at exactly the same time - which suggests something ain't working right.

@Devs- this a bug that needs fixing yesterday. The save function on this game is remarkably fragile. No way to save alternate slots in game, no way to roll back a bit if a glitch like this happens. There's zero tolerance for a save bug when you effectively have only one slot for your whole progress.  I've copied out my saves folder to somewhere the game can't get at, so I can at least recover to today's point if the game does this again, and I highly recommend every else starts doing this until it's confirmed this is fixed.

I just started having these issues tonight after the last update. My game has crashed twice on the science area. It's super random and when I relaunch progress is lost. Not sure how to deal with that or if I need to wait to relaunch or go ahead and try again. The last time I launched it had crashed a few min before and then after launching it crashed again.

Having the exact same issue. My game didn't crash though. I literally saved and quit, went to bed and in the morning my career save was gone. Sandbox is still there, but I'd spent only an hour in there to get an achievement. 25 hours down the drain. I'm wracking my brain to think if I accidentally clicked something that would've deleted the save file, but I just can't see or think of anything that would have completely obliterated it.

I've gone through their "troubleshooting" (which honestly the fact that they have to have a highly detailed troubleshooting page on this topic is kind of telling....),. I'm completely unable to find my save files, they aren't where they're telling me they're supposed to be. Why wouldn't I be allowed to have an alternate save or a backup?? I don't understand how there could be this large of a hole and no real solutions to fix it.

I'm DEVASTATED. If this game hadn't been a gift, I would honestly probably be requesting a refund as I have no desire to play anymore, my game is gone and I'm heartbroken.

Sad too hear that you experienced the same thing.
I hope the customer support will reach out soon.
I have already been in contact with someone from TwoPointCounty on Reddit. They suggested to send my corrupt files to them. I did a couple a day ago, but have not received any reply to it. I hope they will soon so I can contine with my career.

I have just had the same issue, and just made a bug report about it. Sadly, for me, it seems all the back-ups for the career part of the save were all corrupted (even if the museum files themselves are all there).

I guess if I start a new campaign, I will just take care to manually back it up, but I must admit, this is a rather frustrating occurance in an otherwise very fun game.
