In the tutorial it looked like you can click W to rotate an object, however that just pans the camera to the side.  Are you only able to rotate objects using the mouse or is there a keyboard button option?

On an English (UK) keyboard it should be Z in order to rotate the item. What Keyboard type are you using? We may be able to locate the key type for you.
