Students not taking care of needs until summer

I've been playing the game almost everyday since release, and one of the first things I noticed in the early campuses was the students seemed more keen to tend to their needs than patients were in TPH. This really struck me as a welcome change as the unhappy patients storming out due to being thirsty despite a water fountain being a few feet away was always annoying in TPH. Now, I've reached Spiffingmore and Fluffborough, and the students have suddenly stopped caring for their needs. Fluffborough started easy enough, but I can't reach 2 stars because my students fail, and don't shower, go to the restroom, or attend medical or pastoral care rooms.

I have tried to accommodate for accessibility, as I know how long it takes for them to walk. I have showers, lounges, unions, tuition rooms, dorms, ect. accessible all over the campus for my students to use, but it always seems like the students prioritize other things. For example, I watched a student with a stink cloud who was also bursting choose to go to the library then to the student lounge despite the fact there was a bathroom and shower room near the library.

It just seems like my student body is both as neglectful as they are willing to complain about how their needs aren't met and they want to drop out. They'll finally take care of their needs during summer, and it just is very frustrating to watch the hygiene rate go up to 80% over the summer, then drop to 50% over the academic year. It feels like this has to be a bug because there's no reason for a student to neglect their needs the entire semester.

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch, Student need during an academic year can be a bit of a juggle as the Students will give up anything they are doing when they are expected to be in a classroom. During this time it is expected for some needs to go down and perhaps get neglected slightly, but it should not be so bad that if you have the facilities available and are nearby, students should be able to manage themselves somewhat accordingly to get through the year without becoming unhappy.

If you are playing on Steam PC, I would be interested in collecting your save file to take a look to see if there is something going wrong with the students not attending to their needs.

Thanks,

Alexander

This has been happening in my save as well, seemed to really ramp up at Spiffinmore. Students will be idling and have needs in the red, but will decide to go to clubs/hang out in the student lounge or tend to less pressing needs even though the facilities are available and they in some cases walk right past them to go do other things. Even seen things like a student with bursting bladder and full thirst ignoring an open bathroom to go buy a drink instead. So it's not just them prioritising classes over everything else, but that something seems to be 'off' with the AI not telling them to prioritise pressing needs. (I'm playing on Switch)

I actually just saw this last night, playing on switch. I don't know the campus name, it's the archaeology one. My students are failing, not taking care of their needs and being unhappy despite me offering everything they need.

I'm user on PlayStation 5 and I also agree on this issue. I understand that students if they are in a class or going to a class, do not attend to their needs. But there are situations where their occupation is "spending free time" and they don't end up satisfying them. For example, having a student with the hygiene stat in orange and not going to a hydroalcoholic gel station. Or have the hydration stat in orange, have a drink machine and don't get one out.

I posted this issue in a suggestion  thread also.  I’m on Xbox and student will walk past amenities without using.  It also junks up the management view to see bursting students who don’t take care of their needs.
money more ? If a student is seen on management and you give them a designation like medical shouldn’t they go away from the screen???

Hey Alexander,

I'm a PS5 player, not a Steam player! I'm attaching a few screenshots I took last night of a character who wouldn't tend to his "Absolutely bursting" need. Also, yeah, there should always be a balancing act of work/play at campus, but this seems rather strange that he was "absolutely bursting" then chose to go play at an arcade machine and then get a drink from the pulpitation machine after his private tuition session:

Yeah, the happens for me as well (PC - Steam). It's especially bad with things like entertainment, energy, and hygiene, since those cascade into pastoral issues that just make it take longer to get the issue addressed.

Maybe there needs to be more of a grace period at the start of classes or certain needs need to be prioritized better when outside of classes. Energy, in particular is a bit difficult to tackle because the students can't just use any dorm, but only the ones that they are assigned to, which sort of necessitates fixed positioning in a centralized location. Likewise, it also takes a while for energy to be restored, which means other needs can't be satisfied during those break periods.

I have the same issue. They are really not taking care of them selves in certain university's. Also there really is a big bug with the pastoral room.

It's not in the list of rooms you can build. You can only build it if it pops up. But then you dont have any people that are trained or can be trained to be a pastoral employee.

Hi kortlandje,

Thank you for the post. Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

We are aware of student need issues and the team are working hard to get an update out as soon as possible.

In the mean time, some players have found that closing rooms over summer, leaving things like Dorms, Bathrooms and Showers open, can help nudge the students towards their needs. You can also try picking rooms/items up before putting them back down to see if it helps.

As for your Pastoral Pupport room query, this should be available in your build list after you unlock it in Spiffinmoore. Could you confirm what platform you are playing on and that you have completed the earlier objectives in Spiffinmoore to unlock the Pastoral Support room?

Thanks,

Chizel

I have everything my students should need in Urban Bungle (freed up dorm rooms, health and hygiene facilities, multiple pastoral rooms), yet had several students threaten to drop out by year’s end, including one that did less than a month before graduating. They had an A grade, but because they totally neglected ALL their needs, one literally burned out and quit before the school year ended. I’d even directed them to go to the medical office and pastoral care to get help. (The rest managed to barely hang in there.) Weird glitch, and it affects the campus reputation.

Hi JillthePill,

Thank you for posting.

We have implemented some balance adjustments for need satisfaction into version 1.5 that we hope will help with this issue.

1.5 will be released as soon as possible. It is currently available in the Beta Branch on Steam (this link has a list of current fixes) for players to take part in.

Thank you for your patience!

Chizel
