Crashes on Switch

Seems like many people have been dealing with this issue for a long time. I’ve only been playing TPC (on Switch) for about a week and my game has either frozen or completely crashed so many times I’ve lost count. It’s on par with how Disney’s Dreamlight Valley was in its infant stages. IYKYK

My husband plays TPC / TPH (on PS5) and only gets a little lag at times, but never experiences crashing. It’s really frustrating to try enjoying a game when it’s consistently unreliable.

Hi Swindlerxbamf,

Really sorry to hear this.

Most of the crashes we see at the moment are usually linked to mods. Can you tell me if you have any installed that you use frequently?

If you haven't already, please turn on Error Reports from the Switch because this can really help with identifying issues from our end.

Thanks for your patience,

Chizel

Hi thats not entirely true. There is a post in this forum from 2022 which has yet to resolve crashes for a lot of people. I have 0 mods (because my game has NEVER worked) think you'd be able to help us out? People are still actively seeking help but no one responds

Hi ShellyMarsh,

Sorry to hear that you feel like we don't respond. I completely understand the frustration.

From the very first moment the crashes first showed up, the team have been working hard to make improvements to stability. We hate crashes as much as you! Comments in this post and many others have been really useful for us.

Steggs was posting updates as and when we had them for the community, so we're sorry that a recent one has not made it to G2G but hopefully the below will better describe the situation.

Since version 1.0 the game has had updates with significant improvements to performance, and many players have noticed that their stability has gotten much much better. We spoke with Unity (the providers of our game engine) and Nintendo directly to assist with the problem and made notable changes/optimisations that are with you now in version 10.0.

Our Technical Director scoured through the code to find any areas we could focus on to try and gain these improvements. In doing so, we found ways to reduce the render load (or work) done in-game.  We also did a huge pass on textures (which are part of an art asset that make things look how they do) which lowered memory usage on all platforms. For the full list of patch notes, click here

A big help for us has been the error reports sent directly from your Switch when it crashes, so if you are still experiencing problems, please ensure this are turned on.

Recent Data has shown us that players are able to play for longer and the errors are greatly reduced.

I know you commented here that you don't have mods installed, but we have seen that a large number of recent issues are directly related to unoptimized mods. If anyone thinks a mod could be the problem, please uninstall it and report the mod to us.

One of the biggest reason for the Switch to crash is know to us as the "Out Of Memory" Crash or OOM. Should you experience a crash, we strongly advise that you restart the console so that your RAM clears and has a fresh slate when you reboot. We have also seen that turning off the Auto Save feature can help (as long as you remember to save frequently yourself).

We'll endeavour to find anything else that can be done to help.

Thanks,

Chizel

Hi there,

Nothing has changed from the get go of all of this for my game/system.

I haven't even been about to play it enough to mod it, let alone know how. Not to mention that modding was also released after I threw in the towel because I couldn't play the base game. That's why I haven't purchased DLCs either.

I see all that you typed, and all of Steggs updates but nothing had changed. I see lots of people commenting, not just me. I've restarted and tried all the steps provided, so now what? What are the next steps for Switch players?

I'm playing on OLED switch, Fresh install and No mods installed and the game is so clunky and laggy, freezes constantly, takes forever for anything to load. And loads of the bugs
