I've turned on vsync to limit frame rates and cool my graphics card a little except I'm still getting more FPS than the limit set and greater than the refresh rate of my monitor.

Step by step of the bug
Step 1
Turn on vsync
Step 2
Set limit to 60 FPS

Hello, Sorry about your trouble here! As requested, do you think you could upload a DxDiag for Ben? Thanks Chizel

Hi Saurbaum,

Thanks for getting in contact!

Enabling vsync will ignore the framerate limit - there's a little note about this in the tooltip for the framerate limit setting. This is a limitation of the game engine we use, unfortunately - I've requested that they allow both to be active at once, but I don't imagine they'll be fixing this any time soon.

One workaround would be to lower the refresh rate of your monitor (right click your desktop and choose Display Settings and it's in there) - vsync will then be limited to this.

You may also get away with disabling vsync, to let the framerate limit setting work - but depending on your hardware you may then get 'screen tearing', horizontal lines across the screen. It's worth a try though!

It sounds though like you've got vsync enabled and yet the FPS is still somehow higher than the refresh rate of your monitor. This shouldn't be possible! Can I ask how you're measuring the game's FPS? Also what is your monitor refresh rate, and what FPS is the game running at? If you could generate a DxDiag file and attach it here, that would be very useful:

  1. Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time to open the Run window
  2. Type dxdiag in the Run window
  3. Press Enter
  4. Click Save all information
  5. Click Save
  6. The file will be saved to your desktop as dxdiag.txt

Thanks,

Ben

I was getting 200ish frames a second according to the AMD driver overlay. The monitor is set to 120Hz.
